Trading Philosophy

The more complicated something is the greater opportunity it has to self destruct. The FNT/LTF Daily Market Update has it's emphasis on simplicity as opposed to complexity. Simply put, the success we find comes from getting on the right side of the market. The only reason you lose money is when you are on the wrong side of the market. When the information says get out of this trade, we get out of the trade (wrong side of the market) or reverse our position.

So what do we do if we've done the wrong thing? Easy, get out!...NOW, IMMEDIATELY...wrong is wrong and time will not make it right. Remember, you can NEVER be more correct than the market. When the market is moving in your favor you are right and the market is right. When it is moving against you, you are out of step. When you are incorrect you will be feeling pain($$$). This is your indication that you are doing the wrong thing.

Develop your psychological preparedness to say I am going to have losing trades. Keep in mind that if profits are part of our experience, there must be a counterpart...losses...you cannot have one without the other. You must learn to live with them both. There will be bad days as well as good days, and we cannot expect to attain total perfection in the marketplace.

Follow the Information

By nature, people are often discontent and this causes us to want to do better than the information itself. We are not content to SIMPLY sit back and flow with the market as we should. We not only want to beat the market, but we want to beat the information. Our greed says we can make a little more money if we get in a little earlier so we try to beat the information.

This is where self destruction comes from. Do not attempt to beat the information. Our stop point, or point that acknowledges we are doing the wrong thing in the market, is a function of the amount of money we have and our willingness to part with that money.

The FNT/LTF Daily Market Update is developed with stops and reverses not only based on market action but also on dollar amounts of pain. The way we manage our money is to insure that our losses are smaller than our profits. We never put all our eggs in one basket, hoping and praying we are correct. We use a set percentage of our capital on each trade always staying with the same number of contracts, regardless of how bearish or bullish we are. After all, we may or may not be correct on the market.

The only way to insure losses smaller than profits using our information is to make certain we trade the same number of contracts on each and every signal. The temptation is to think you can out perform or out guess the information, and load up or plunge for what you see as the big trade. DON'T DO IT! If you do you are in for a quick trip to the danger zone. What leads to self destruction more than anything else is an overcommitment to the market, no matter what the size of our trading capital. It is not the advice that kills you, it is how you handle the advice. If you feel this does not apply to you, please read this over a couple of times before making your next trade.

Follow the information, be consistent, follow the plan, be alert at all times, don't fall in love with one particular commodity, find a broker who will allow you to follow the information, and you too may make it big in commodities!
